Community radio station, Curtin FM, has once again received generous support from its listeners, raising more than $102,000 worth of donations during its annual Radiothon.
The four day event exceeded expectations after the station set a target of $90,000.
The amount was raised from more than 1,750 individual donations, ranging from $5 to $2,500 and also included a number of raffled items, donated by station sponsors.
Station Director, Quinn Glasson thanked all those who have helped with the Radiothon and said the achievement is testament to the dedication of the Curtin FM family.
“This year’s success is a tribute to all the Curtin FM staff and our team of dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly to answer the phones and coordinate the event,” Mr Glasson said.
More than 70 volunteers helped with the Radiothon by taking calls, collating pledges and assisting with the event.
Curtin University Vice President, Corporate Relations and Development, Ms Valerie Raubenheimer welcomed the large amount of money raised, with funds going back into running the station, including the cadet journalism program for Curtin University students.
“The fantastic result of the Radiothon demonstrates how important Curtin FM is to members of the community as they continue to give generous donations to ensure the station can continue to broadcast,” Ms Raubenheimer said.
“We believe our cadet journalism programs are providing integral experiences to up-and-comers in radio and to see the community contribute to keep these programs running is fantastic.”
Curtin FM is Western Australia’s largest community radio station with more than 200,000 listeners weekly. It is based at Curtin University’s Bentley Campus and is a not-for-profit enterprise completely self-funded from community support and corporate sponsorship.
