Curtin’s School of Public Health are showcasing the benefits of plant-based diets and encouraging Western Australians to live longer, younger and better by taking part in the 2010 National Vegetarian Week.
The School of Public Health will be hosting a vegetarian seminar series, a number of simple cooking classes, and a vegetarian food and resource fair that will be open to the community during National Vegetarian Week from 27 September – 3 October.
Public Health staff want to put old wives’ tales to rest and let people know how tasty a veggie diet can be.
Various events throughout the week will spotlight the healthy benefits of following a vegetarian lifestyle.
Community Liaison Officer Denise Griffiths said you don’t need to be veggie to enjoy National Vegetarian Week, but you do need to love flavoursome food.
“Many people don’t realise that veggie meals can burst with flavours, texture and taste from a Zesty Pesto Tofu Mediterranean Salad to a Redang Malaysian Curry,” Ms Griffiths said.
“Our cooking program will show you how to develop quick and cheap meals that can help with a busy study or social life.
“And our seminar series will cover everything from Hindu views on a vegetarian lifestyle through to nutritional benefits and practical thinking.”
Now in its fourth year, National Vegetarian Week is a great opportunity to look at food and its impact on the environment, animals and health. For more information visit www.vegetarianweek.com.au or
