Julia Jenkins’s passion for food and cooking has catapulted her into the finals of Ten’s new TV show MasterChef Australia.
Ms Jenkins graduated from Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts (in Communication and Cultural Studies) with a major in Professional Writing in 2005.
“Making it to the finals of MasterChef Australia has been an incredible journey full of surprises,” said Ms Jenkins, 23, formerly of Nedlands.
“I am obsessed with cooking and cuisine.
“Since my late teens I have been doing lots of cooking classes and reading up on anything to do with food.
“My love of cuisine led to food writing at a newspaper as part of a ‘work experience’ unit for Professional Writing.
“This taste for food writing whetted my appetite to get more involved in the food industry.”
Ms Jenkins said she was in Melbourne working when she saw the advertisement for the national television program.
“I was astonished when I was accepted, so I left my job and now I’m concentrating on the show which includes doing ‘work experience’ at a Melbourne restaurant,” she said.
“It would be a dream come true for me to win MasterChef Australia.
“The writing skills that I learned at Curtin will come in handy too as one of the prizes is a cookbook deal, so I really hope I win.
“One day I would like to open my own restaurant, and write lots of cookbooks.”
