Fascinating work inspired by eco-design and sustainability from local Curtin University of Technology fashion and textile design graduate Amy Clarke of Subiaco will be on show at the Prelude Exhibition that will run from Thursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September in Northbridge.

Exhibition Coordinator Ms Jessica Judd said Ms Clarke is part of a cohort of six Curtin fashion and textile graduates exhibiting at Prelude that will be open daily from 11.00am to 4.00pm upstairs in Gingers Garage.

“Prelude will blur the boundaries between art and fashion and promises to be a prelude to the careers of talented young individuals like Ms Clarke,” Ms Judd said.

“Visitors to the Exhibition will be fascinated by Amy’s fabrics and creations.”

Prelude will be officially opened by Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket.

Ms Clarke graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion and Textiles in 2007.

“My design work is concerned with the connection between the built and natural environments,” Ms Clarke.

“This collection was inspired by the principles of sustainable architecture – in particular the application of
layering and ventilation structures.

“I find the possibilities in fibre and fabric research and technology – natural and man-made – very exciting.

My collection is made with materials that aim to minimise the ethical and environmental impacts at every stage.”

Prelude will also feature works by Elise Capelli, Sophie Webber, Tasha Vener, Emma Hunter and Gabrielle Watts, and images captured by contemporary emerging photographer Patrick O’Brien who documented their work.

The free four-day exhibition is a fringe activity to the 2008 Perth Fashion Festival Cultural Program. It is supported by Curtin through the Office of Alumni Relations, by the Department of Culture and the Arts through the Young People and the Arts funding program, and the City of Perth.

Attention Editor/COS: A high resolution photograph is available. The Exhibition is being held upstairs in Gingers Garage 267 William St Northbridge and open daily from 11.00am to 4.00pm Thursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September.
