Students living in the North-West will now have the opportunity to study Curtin University courses as part of a new collaboration with the Pilbara Universities Centre (PUC).

The partnership will include a Masters of Education course, offered through a blended learning model which uses immersive digital technology as well as face-to face support at the PUC. Students will also have access to study spaces, Wi-Fi and academic skills support.

Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie said the new collaboration would offer regional students in Western Australia’s north, further access to tertiary education.

“We are delighted to be able to offer quality tertiary education to our regional students in the Pilbara through this partnership with PUC, which has study hubs in both Karratha and Port Hedland,” Professor Downie said.

“This collaboration builds on our existing commitment to regional students through the Geraldton Universities Centre which services people in the Mid-West region, Muresk Institute in Northam and our own campus in Kalgoorlie.

“Curtin is looking forward to giving aspiring students the ability to undertake world-class and supported university education without having to leave the Pilbara.”

PUC Chair and Karratha Mayor, Peter Long said the new collaboration with Curtin would strengthen the range of supported courses and opportunities the Centre could provide to local students and industry in the North-West.

“The local community have been advocating for higher education options in the Pilbara for quite a while now and we are delighted that Curtin could join us as a foundation university partner,” Mr Long said.

“This partnership with Curtin will help to ensure that the Pilbara region retains a workforce for the jobs of the future and that local businesses have access to the skills they require from within their own community.”
