Not-for-profit organisations, social enterprises, small businesses and start-ups can now receive advice and support from students at Curtin Business School and Curtin Law School, with the launch of the innovative new Curtin Link service.
Set to be officially launched today, the service will connect students with the community in order to provide integrated advice and project support on a range of business, legal and taxation issues – primarily on a pro bono basis.
Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel de Bussy said postgraduate and final year undergraduate students will provide the service with guidance and mentoring from qualified and experienced supervisors.
“The students will offer advice and undertake real world projects for business and the community,” Professor de Bussy said.
“Curtin Link will build on the existing success of the John Curtin Law Clinic and Curtin Tax Clinic, which enable students to provide free legal and taxation advice to small businesses and taxpayers under the supervision of appropriately qualified practitioners.
“Clients can gain access to the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm of Curtin students, while also helping to develop the next generation of professional leaders by providing our students with meaningful, hands-on work experience.”
Professor de Bussy said in addition to helping the client, the service allows students to gain invaluable experience through immersion in an industry or profession related to their chosen academic discipline or career goals.
“Not-for-profit organisations, social enterprises and crowd-funded start-ups are particularly encouraged to take advantage of the service and register for Curtin Link,” Professor de Bussy said.
Clients and students will meet at the Curtin Link shopfront located at the Curtin Graduate School of Business in the Perth CBD, with consultations tailored to the needs of the particular client or project.
Areas of advice and project support covered by the Curtin Link service include: law, taxation, marketing, accounting, finance, property development and valuation, information systems and technology, management and business development, logistics and supply chain management.
