Curtin University has appointed health care leader Dr Michael Stanford as Pro Chancellor to the University’s Council for a three-year term.
Dr Stanford, a WA Citizen of the Year recipient, is the Chief Executive Officer of St John of God Health Care, an integrated health care provider that operates in Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, and New Zealand. He has extensive experience in healthcare management in Australia over a period of more than 20 years.
Dr Stanford was appointed to the University’s Council on 2 December 2008, and is currently serving his second term. He is also a member of the University’s Finance Committee.
Curtin Chancellor Mr Colin Beckett said Dr Stanford’s work as a highly skilled director of healthcare organisations, and his four-years’ experience on the University’s Council placed him in an ideal position to take on the role of Pro Chancellor.
“Dr Stanford’s experience and skills have provided enormous benefit to the Council during his term and I’m confident he will provide a valuable contribution in the role of Pro Chancellor,” Mr Beckett said.
Dr Stanford replaces Ms Zelinda Bafile as Pro Chancellor. Ms Bafile held the position for three years and served on Council for three terms. She stepped down from the position of Pro Chancellor on 31 March 2013.
Ms Bafile practised as a lawyer for more than 30 years including 20 years in the banking and finance industry. During her time on Council, Ms Bafile also served as Chair of the Kalgoorlie Campus Council and John Curtin Art Gallery.
“Ms Bafile has made a significant contribution to Council, and I thank her for sharing her experience, which has contributed to Curtin being well placed as we work towards a new Strategic Plan for 2013 – 2017,” Mr Beckett said.
Dr Stanford’s term commences on 1 April 2013.
The Pro Chancellor deputises for the Chancellor in all matters whenever the Chancellor is absent.
