A leading technologist who heads up manufacturing operations for Facebook’s consumer hardware Building 8 division and Oculus AR/VR has been appointed an Adjunct Professor for the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University.
Silicon Valley-based Dr Paul Herz, who has twenty years’ experience taking transformational products to market, is also joining Curtin’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Education Advisory Panel.
As part of his role, Dr Herz will provide guest lectures in entrepreneurship and engineering, deliver workshops on manufacturing and logistics, mentor students, and provide strategic advice to the University on industry engagement and commercialisation.
Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel de Bussy said he was delighted by the appointment of Dr Herz.
“I am thrilled to welcome Dr Herz to Curtin Business School,” Professor de Bussy said. “He is at the forefront of the digital technologies disrupting industries worldwide and connects us directly with Silicon Valley.
“Dr Herz will offer rare insights into the world of a global tech entrepreneur, providing inspiration to the next generation of Western Australian business leaders.
“Our MBA and Executive Education programs will benefit from the insights he can provide on innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Dr Herz said Curtin University is in a unique position to leverage its faculty, international student body, and location to build an extremely strong program in business entrepreneurship, new technologies, and leadership development.
“It is an honour to join Curtin as an Adjunct Professor and I’m looking forward to working with the University to expand its already strong curriculum,” Dr Herz said.
Dr Herz delivered an entrepreneurship masterclass at Curtin in 2016 and presented as a guest speaker at this year’s West Tech Fest, initiated by Curtin.
Dr Herz completed his undergraduate degree in engineering physics from the University of California at Berkeley and received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in electrical engineering and computer science.
