Curtin’s WA School of Mines (WASM) is running a Focus on Mining camp from 11-15 July for Western Australian Year 12 science and mathematics students who are considering studying mining-related courses at university and work within the mining industry.
During the all-expenses-paid camp, students will tour operational mine sites, participate in hands-on workshops on campus, and meet lecturers, students and mining industry leaders.
The camp tour will commence at Curtin’s Bentley campus before progressing to Curtin’s WASM Kalgoorlie campus. This experience introduces participants to the mining industry and what it has to offer.
In 2010, sites visited included Catalpa’s Edna May Gold Project, La Mancha’s Frog’s Leg mine, WASM, KCGM’s Super Pit, a tour of the Prospectors & Miners Hall of Fame and St Ives Gold Mine.
When: Monday 11 July 2011 – Friday 15 July 2011
Where: Curtin University, Bentley and Curtin WASM, Kalgoorlie
A number of excellent photo opportunities will be available for media during the Focus on Mining camp. Please make contact to organise interview, photo and video opportunities.
