Curtin University has congratulated Professor Phillip Della on being presented the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Honour at the Western Australian Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards (WANMEA).
Professor Della, the Head of Curtin’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, was recognised with the award by Health Minister, the Hon Roger Cook, at the 15th WANMEA, held on Saturday night.
Curtin University Faculty of Health Sciences Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Archie Clements said Professor Della had contributed to healthcare service delivery, nursing and midwifery education, as well as legislation and governance at local, state and national levels throughout his career.
“I am delighted that Professor Della has been recognised with the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Honour at these prestigious awards for Western Australia’s nursing and midwifery sector,” Professor Clements said.
“Professor Della is a highly respected healthcare expert and we feel very fortunate that the next generation of nursing, midwifery and paramedicine graduates has been learning under his leadership since he started at Curtin in 2008, following senior roles in the public health system.
“His commitment to the profession has brought many innovations to the nursing and midwifery sector and empowered others to do the same, promoting the key role nurses and m
idwives play as core members of the healthcare team.”
Mr Cook said: “I congratulate Professor Phillip Della, Curtin University’s Head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, on receiving the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Honour.
“Over his 40-year career, Professor Della has been a trailblazer, I thank him for his constant commitment to driving innovation within his chosen profession,” the Health Minister said.
“He has not only excelled in his role, but gone over and above what is expected of him.”
The 15th WANMEA, which is hosted annually to coincide with International Day of the Midwife on May 5 and International Nurses Day on May 12, was held on Saturday, May 12.
The awards recognised 11 outstanding WA nurses and midwives, bringing together nurses, midwives, health care professionals and government officials from all over the State.
