Kristina Pocock, busy single mother of two and avid pianist, is now the winner of two prestigious Curtin Business School (CBS) awards, presented at the CBS 2008 Prize Ceremony recently.
Kristina was awarded the Marketforce – Marketing Communications Prize for the best graduating student in a Marketing and Advertising Double Major and the Synovate Prize for the best graduating student in a School of Marketing course.
Juggling two young children while working and studying part-time is no small achievement, and Kristina said this was why she was particularly proud to receive the two prestigious awards.
“It has taken me 10 years to complete my degree, but all my hard work and effort has been worth while. This has been my highest achievement at university and spurs me on to scale new heights in my future career,” Kristina said.
“It was certainly a challenge to juggle work, study and family life, and on many occasions I would come home from a day at work and start my assignments late at night when the family were in bed.
“I was supported by many people, including the teaching staff at Curtin who went out of their way to help me, as well as my family and friends.”
Head of School of Marketing, Professor Ram Ramaseshan congratulated Kristina on receiving two of the School’s top awards.
“I congratulate Kristina on her wonderful achievement and on her commitment to attaining such outstanding results. For her to receive the top two awards from the School is a huge achievement and doesn’t happen very often,” Professor Ramaseshan said.
Kristina who graduated at the end of last year says she is looking forward to her study free year and hopes that the break will allow a fresh start in 2009 where she will begin her honours.
“I have now come full circle and I’m working at the School of Marketing in Teaching and Learning Support. It’s great to give something back to an organisation that has given me so much,” Kristina said.
“I thoroughly enjoy my work and would recommend marketing as a career to anyone. If you want to do something fun in a dynamic and fast-paced industry, marketing is a great option.”
