Curtin University student Naomi Henn has been recognised nationally as a star on the rise. The young business student recently competed in the finals of the prestigious Business Icon competition, taking out the ‘Most Potential Future Leader- Rising Star Award’.
Now in its seventh year, Business Icon is an exclusive national competition for 18 to 25 year olds run by the Australian Education and Leadership Centre (AELC).
Held in front of an audience of over 400 people, the finals of Business Icon consisted of a week-long intensive leadership and entrepreneurial competition, with competitors given just 24 hours to complete a number of highly demanding tasks and assessments. Naomi turned 18 just two days before the competition closing date, making her the youngest competitor.
A series of elimination events followed, resembling real-life business scenarios, with finalists presenting in front of a board of Chancellors and industry heavyweights, including sleepwear king Peter Alexander, former electrical retailer Rick Hart and L’Oreal head Johan Berg.
Later that same month, Naomi led the Curtin University sports team to Australia’s Uni games as their Athletics Captain, placing in the finals of the open women’s 100m and 400m hurdles, and achieving personal best times in both events.
CBS Head of Development, Glen Hutchings, said Naomi is one of the most driven students he has ever encountered.
“Naomi is a gifted all-rounder, but it is her motivation and strength of character than enables her to excel in national competitions like Business Icon and the University Games,” Mr Hutchings said.
“Curtin Business School is proud to stand behind Naomi in all that she achieves. She is an outstanding student who I believe will go very far.”
Naomi commenced an internship with AELC this month and will soon begin a traineeship at PwC, the world’s largest Accounting firm, where she will be working in the Corporate Tax and Legal Department. She secured this traineeship when she was only 16 years of age.
