Curtin University has welcomed the arrival of Professor Peter Lilly to the role of Executive Director of Minerals and Energy Strategy, within the Office of Research and Development and Curtin’s Institute of Minerals and Energy (CIME).
Professor Lilly brings with him a wealth of knowledge, international recognition and experience from operations, research and education with the minerals industry, as well as an enviable list of credentials that will prove of significant value to Curtin.
Professor Lilly said he looked forward to supporting the development of a new, dynamic business strategy for Curtin.
“This involves advocating the University’s capabilities, its people, its state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure,” Professor Lilly said.
“To achieve this I would like to drive Curtin’s strong vision in the minerals and energy space to the next level by demonstrating our genuine interdisciplinary strength and research excellence, within CIME and also that emerging from the WA School of Mines and other compatible research schools.
“Curtin has a huge capacity to work as a team towards this end, while further heightening its impact through collaboration. With solid, high-quality science and engineering research and education, community engagement and strong relationships, I believe we can effectively demonstrate our increasing strength and reliability in this area.”
Professor Lilly has held a variety of positions in academia and industry worldwide and worked with many client organisations on projects located in Australia and overseas.
He is currently a member of the Western Australian Government’s Mining Industry Advisory Committee and is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, a Chartered Professional and Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy, and a Chartered Professional Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
In recognition of his contributions to the profession, Professor Lilly was awarded both the Sir Willis Connolly Medal and the Beryl Jacka Award by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 2008.
