Professor Marcia Devlin and Emeritus Professor Lesley Parker have been appointed to the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) Advisory Board based at Curtin University, which will be chaired for another three-year term by Ms Erin Watson-Lynn.
Professor Devlin, who is the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, and Emeritus Professor Parker, a former Curtin University Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, will join the Advisory Board alongside other experienced and knowledgeable academics and equity advocates.
Based at Curtin University since 2013, the NCSEHE provides national leadership in student equity in higher education, connecting research, policy and practice to improve higher education participation and success for marginalised and disadvantaged people.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said she was delighted to announce the appointments of Professors Devlin and Parker to the Centre’s Advisory Board.
“The NCSEHE Advisory Board assists in identifying research opportunities and expanding the range of stakeholders involved in the Centre, as well as being involved in the Centre’s strategy, risk management and compliance,” Professor Terry said.
“Both Professor Devlin and Emeritus Professor Parker have held significant senior roles in the higher education industry and will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role, ensuring the NCSEHE remains future-focused and relevant in the sector.”
NCSEHE Director Professor Sue Trinidad said the Advisory Board was an important support to the governance of the Centre, and recognised the collective knowledge, insight and commitment to student equity of this esteemed advisory group.
“As we welcome our new Advisory Board members, I would like to acknowledge the contributions of all past and current members,” Professor Trinidad said.
“I am confident that the Centre will continue to go from strength to strength over the next three-year term at Curtin University, guided by this well-informed advisory group.”
A graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Professor Devlin serves on a number of boards including the Education and Training Advisory Board of Open Colleges, the VU Online Board, and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and its Executive and Audit Committees.
Emeritus Professor Parker has dedicated many years to leadership, research, teaching and policy development in higher education. As well as serving as a member or chair of the councils of numerous schools, colleges and industry bodies, she has authored many publications, especially in the area of gender equity in science and mathematics education and was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1998.
