Two leading figures from the banking and energy sectors have been appointed as members of the Curtin University Council.
Ms Cathryn Carver, Senior Managing Director, International and Institutional Division at ANZ and Mr Alex Jones, Chief Information Officer for Synergy Australia have both been appointed for three-year terms.
Curtin Chancellor Mr Colin Beckett said both appointees were highly regarded in their respective fields and he was delighted they had accepted the positions on the University’s 17 member Council.
“Both Cathryn and Alex’s industry perspective and international experience will be of enormous benefit to the Curtin Council,” Mr Beckett said.
“I look forward to working with them in their new roles.”
In her role at ANZ, Ms Carver is responsible for the strategic focus of some key corporations and financial institutions in Australia and across the Asia.
She began her career at ANZ as Managing Director, Corporate and Structured Financing, in 2005. She was previously at Westpac and Macquarie Bank.
A Curtin alumna, Ms Carver holds a Bachelor of Business (Economics & Finance) and also serves on the Advisory Board for the Curtin Business School; the Australian Financial Markets Association board; Committee for Perth board and the MLC Foundation.
Ms Carver’s three-year term commenced in November.
Mr Jones is a senior information technology executive with over 15 years’ experience in regional and global corporate IT leadership roles.
Prior to his role at Synergy, he was Global Director Processes and Applications for the beverage manufacturer, Foster’s Group.
He has held senior roles for the Walt Disney Company in Los Angeles and Hong Kong with responsibility for operations throughout Asia Pacific and Japan.
Mr Jones holds a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne.
Mr Jones’ three-year team will commence in April 2015.
