Youth leader, singer, table-tennis champion, scholarship recipient and now dual Curtin Business School award winner Amanda Tan has received the prestigious Ken Hall Medal.
Amanda, who graduated from the School of Information Systems (IS) received the award for the best graduating honours student at last night’s CBS 2008 Prize Ceremony.
Professor Duncan Bentley, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Business School congratulated Amanda on her outstanding achievement and explained the significance of the award.
“The Ken Hall Medal is presented to the best graduating honours student based on their academic record. It is our most significant award and the Medal is struck in nine carat gold by the Perth Mint,” Professor Bentley said.
“On seven occasions Amanda was a member of Curtin’s Vice-Chancellor’s List which recognises the top 1% of undergraduate students across all disciplines.
“I commend her dedication and wish her well for the future.”
Amanda said she has now secured a much coveted job as an analyst at a global consulting firm, Deloitte.
“It is a challenging position; however I am thoroughly enjoying it. My studies have prepared me well for the world of IS and I urge students to recognise the opportunities this industry has to offer,” Amanda said.
“It is more that just managing and processing information. Today’s business environment depends on technology and there is great demand for graduates with an understanding of both business and technology.”
Amanda’s prize winning thesis about knowledge management was supervised by the Head of School of IS, Dr Vanessa Chang.
“Amanda adapted an ecosystems model for analysing knowledge management, and conducted case studies on Small to Medium Enterprises. She competed against many students to present her paper at the Conference on Information Management and Internet Research at the end of last year,” Dr Chang said.
“Amanda is a bright and enthusiastic student and it was a pleasure to teach her. She is a great ambassador for the School and I wish her all the best at Deloitte.”
Amanda was also awarded the RD Gallier’s Medal which is presented to the best graduating honours student in the School of IS.
“I am honoured to receive the awards. It is nice to be acknowledged for all the hard work and effort I put into my degree,” Amanda said.
