An education initiative involving Curtin University and UWA will help to strengthen ties to build South Korean academic expertise in mineral resources.
A delegation from the Korea Energy and Mineral Resources Engineering Program (KEMREP) were in Perth this week to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with both universities, which will create long-term institutional collaboration in education and research.
KEMREP, which represents ten universities in Korea, has the support of the South Korean Government to broaden international experience within their mining and engineering programs.
Leader of KEMREP, Professor Changwoo Lee is meeting the Hon Dr Elizabeth Constable, Minister for Education and Vice-Chancellors from both universities for discussions and official arrangements for the MoU.
“We expect this will be a valuable long-term collaboration in education and research that will bring great benefits for the region,” Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket said.
Director of the Western Australian School of Mines, Professor Stephen Hall said the collaboration will include exchanges of information and experience, exchanges of faculty members and students, cooperative research projects and an executive development program.
“Further individual agreements between KEMREP and Curtin will also be discussed with Professor Lee,” Professor Hall said.
