If you’re looking to add a bit of adventure and global experience to your studies, we offer a range of study abroad and exchange opportunities that span across different faculties. From long term study experiences to international intensive units, there’s something for everyone. Here are five exciting study abroad opportunities, that will take your study out of Australia and across the globe!

New Colombo Plan

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is an incredible opportunity for students who are looking to expand their cultural understanding while studying abroad in the Indo-Pacific region. This Australian government initiative funds students to undertake semester-long study exchanges, internships, short-term study tours, practical and clinical placements in heaps of participating countries like Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam and more!

The perks:

Not only does the NCP give you the chance to immerse yourself in a different culture, but it also offers the opportunity to build connections with industry leaders and businesses in the region, whilst being partially funded! If you’re passionate about international relations, communication or cultural studies, this program can open doors to unique career paths.

Intercampus Student Exchange

Our Intercampus Exchange allows you to study at one of Curtin’s global campuses while staying in the comfort of your degree. With campuses in Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius, this program is an easy way to explore different culture, in a totally new city, whilst continuing your studies in the way that you know how. As the units offered at our campuses are delivered in English and are the same content as the Curtin Perth units, gaining credit works as closely as it does to home as it can get. You will remain enrolled as a Curtin Perth student, pay your tuition to Curtin Perth and your grades will contribute normally as they do to your course weighted average.

The perks:

Intercampus exchanges offer the best of both worlds: you’ll experience a new country and campus whilst remaining in the academic way of life you already know. Since the courses are designed to align with your current degree, and all in English and credits easily transfer, it won’t be a massive change! Plus, you’ll have the chance to explore a new environment without adapting to a new academic system.

Study tours

Curtin’s study tours are short-term, faculty-led programs that give students the chance to travel and learn in an immersive environment. Study tours take place during the summer or winter breaks, offering you the chance to visit a range of global locations while completing an intensive academic program, ticking off your units quickly and in an immersive environment. There are heaps to choose from, with a variety of different goals and purposes, like the Nepal Women’s Empowerment Challenge, the Humanitarian Engineering International Argentina Program, the ZHAW School of Health Professions International Winter School in Winterthur, Switzerland and more

The perks:

Study tours are perfect if you’re looking for a taste of international experience without the commitment of a full semester abroad. These tours are a great way to combine travel with academic learning, as they typically include visits to key sites, hands-on learning experiences and networking opportunities with industry professionals. They also offer a fantastic way to earn unit credits while exploring a new country for a few weeks, under the guidance of your own faculty academics.

Internships and practicums

Curtin offers a range of international internships and practicums, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in their chosen field while studying abroad. These internships are available across a range of disciplines and take place in various countries and look amazing on your CV!

The perks:

Participating in an international internship gives you a unique edge in the job market. Not only do you gain real-world experience, but you also develop cross-cultural communication skills, which are highly valued by any employer. Plus, an internship or practicum abroad allows you to immerse yourself in a new professional environment while building a global network of contacts.

Semester and year-long exchanges

For those who are ready for a longer commitment, Curtin offers semester and year-long exchange programs at our partner universities around the world. You can choose from a range of destinations, including Europe, North America, and Asia, depending on your academic and personal preferences.

The perks:

These exchanges allow you to fully integrate into the academic and cultural life of another country. You’ll study alongside local students, experience day-to-day life in a new city, and gain a deep understanding of the host culture. Plus, with over 100 partner universities to choose from, you’re sure to find an exchange program that aligns with your academic goals and interests.

Study abroad and exchange programs are a fantastic way to enhance your academic journey while experiencing the world. Whether you’re taking part in the New Colombo Plan, exploring another one of our international campuses, going on a study tour, gaining hands-on experience through internships or committing to a semester-long exchange, there are countless opportunities to expand your horizons.
