Semester 2 begins next week and there’s never been a better time to get involved, make new friends and create unforgettable memories. From social sports at Curtin Stadium to volunteering with Curtin Volunteers!, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a rundown of the exciting social opportunities you can dive into this semester.
Get active with Social Sports
Curtin Stadium offers a huge range of social sports where you can have fun, stay fit, and meet new people. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking to try something new, there’s a sport for you. Join a team or sign up as an individual for sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more. It’s all about having fun, but you’ll get a great workout in the process!
Join a Student Guild Club
Curtin’s Student Guild is your gateway to building a great network of friends with similar interests. With over 100 clubs and societies, there’s bound to be one that matches your interests. Whether you’re into anime, debating, gaming, or sustainability, joining a club is a fantastic way to connect with like-minded peers. Clubs often organise events, workshops, and social gatherings, providing endless opportunities to make friends and level up your uni experience.
And with Guild O-Day just around the corner on Wednesday 24 July, there is plenty of opportunity to meet with your favourite clubs in person.
Volunteer with Curtin Volunteers!
Looking to make a difference in the local community? Curtin Volunteers! (CV!) is the perfect program for you. Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back to the community while gaining valuable skills and experiences. CV! offers a variety of projects and programs that you can get involved in, ranging from environmental conservation to helping out at local community centres. It’s a wonderful way to meet new people, make a positive impact and even add experience to your resume.
Experience the John Curtin Weekend
One of the highlights of the semester is the John Curtin Weekend (JCW). This flagship event organised by Curtin Volunteers! is a weekend dedicated to community service and engagement. You get to travel to regional and rural areas to assist with community projects, from painting schools to environmental clean-ups. It’s an incredible opportunity to bond with fellow students, explore regional WA and give back to the local community. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!
Why Get Involved?
Participating in social activities isn’t just about having fun (although that’s a big part of it!). It’s also about building a network, gaining new skills and enhancing your uni experience. Being active in sports, clubs, or volunteer work can help you develop leadership skills, improve your time management and boost your confidence. Plus, it’s a great way to de-stress and maintain a healthy balance between academics and social life.
