O-Week is an important part of your university journey and you don’t want to miss it! It will help set you up for a successful first semester at university.
You’ll attend a range of information sessions, workshops and events throughout the week, but there’s more to O-Week, with free entertainment and activities happening on campus daily!
You will also have a chance to meet the New to Curtin Mentors. At the Mentor Hub, you’ll be able to drop in to connect with your peers and Mentors, get your questions answered, and receive useful resources that will assist you during your first semester.
“One of my favourite times during the semester is always O-Week,” says Mentor Leader Omar. “It’s the time when students aren’t stressing over assignments and have the chance to have fun at uni and express that student culture through a variety of clubs and activities.”
1: Get introduced to your degree
Your faculty or course Orientation session will introduce you to your degree, and cover important information on how to succeed in your studies.
“Attending the faculty session was vital to my understanding of the university system and my obligations during my first year,” says New to Curtin Mentor Hanna. “Plus we had a blast exploring the campus!”
You will also have the opportunity to meet your peers and key support staff.
2: Make new friends
On Tuesday and Thursday, Speed Friending will be happening at the Guild Undercover Courtyard (106F). While it can be scary putting yourself out there to talk to strangers, it will be comforting to know that everyone else there will be in the same boat as you and also wanting to meet new people!
“Making new friends and the positive environment I meet these friends in is a large part of why I return to be a part of the O-Week volunteer team time and time again,” says Mentor Leader Joel. “Gaining new friendships is invaluable to me, especially considering how big Curtin is.”
3: Get to know the campus
Did you know that the Curtin Perth campus is an impressive 116 hectares? Visit on O-Week to take advantage of campus tours and get to know where your classrooms are, the best cafes and even some secret study spots! You’ll be able to navigate campus confidently and be ready for your first day.
4: Learn about support services
There a range of personal and study support services available to you at Curtin. Whether you are looking for advice to kick start your future career, access to counselling and wellbeing services or ways to improve your study skills, find out more about support at Curtin during O-Week.
5: Enjoy free entertainment, activities, food and drinks
A top tip from Mentor Leader Aisyah is: “Don’t forget to explore all the cool and free activities around campus and get your hands on some free goodies!”
There are plenty of fun activities to take part in, from arts and crafts, basketball dunk and more. Plus, you’ll be able to find free food and drinks at the O-Week activation zones. Whether it’s a popcorn, Zooper Doopers, fairy floss, or snow cones, we’ve got the tasty treats to keep you going through the week!
