Reading time: 3 minutes
University life isn’t just about lectures, assignments and cramming for exams. It’s also the perfect time to make memories and deepen connections with your new uni friends! If you’re looking for some ideas on what to together on our Perth campus, here are four great activities to try.
1. Explore campus artwork together
Did you know that Curtin’s campus is like an open-air gallery? Grab a coffee, lace up your walking shoes and go on a hunt to find all the incredible public art pieces scattered around campus. From sculptures to murals, there’s so much creativity waiting to be discovered. It’s a great mix of relaxing and inspiring, especially if you’re into photography, design, or just enjoy soaking in artistic vibes.
If you need a guide, check out the Public Art Collection map to plan your route. Bonus points if you share your favourite pieces on social media to show off your artsy side (don’t forget to tag @curtinlifeaustralia and #CurtinLife).
2. Catch a Perth Festival exhibition at the John Curtin Gallery
For an enriching and thought-provoking afternoon with your friends, head to the John Curtin Gallery as part of Perth Festival 2025. This Gallery is currently showcasing two stunning exhibitions as part of the Festival: with major works by Yindjibarndi artist Alice Guiness and Dharawal-based artist Mai Nguyá»…n-Long. Their art explores deep cultural themes and unique perspectives that will leave you with plenty to talk about over dinner afterward.
Plus, it’s free—so why not turn your gallery visit into a regular hangout ritual? Learn more about John Curtin Gallery’s current exhibitions on our website.
3. Get creative at the Makerspace
Looking for something hands-on and fun? The Curtin Library Makerspace is a place where creativity and innovation collide. You and your friends can try out everything from 3D printing and electronics to handcrafting and multimedia projects. Whether you’re a seasoned DIY-er or a complete beginner, the Curtin Makerspace is designed to help you explore new skills and build cool stuff in a relaxed, supportive environment. No bookings required—just drop in during opening hours.
Imagine walking out with something you made from scratch, whether it’s a simple craft project or a new gadget! A memory for the books.
4. Chill with a study session at the Library
Need to hit the books but don’t want to study alone? Make it a group thing by booking a study space at the Library. Curtin’s study rooms are perfect for brainstorming sessions, quiet reading or collaborating on group projects. Bring snacks, compare notes and keep each other motivated while you tackle your to-do lists. Plus, when you’re studying with friends, even the dullest assignments feel a little less painful. Just don’t forget to book your spot in advance through the library’s booking system.
These low-key activities are perfect for students who want to spend quality time together while exploring all the amazing things our Perth campus has to offer. Whether you’re into art, hands-on projects or just need to catch up on your studies, there’s something for everyone.
