Ever wondered what it feels like to go on a John Curtin Weekend (JCW) trip?

In the next episode of I’m at Curtin, Now What?, our international students and hosts, Devna and Celena teamed up with Curtin Volunteers! (CV!) for a fun-filled John Curtin Weekend experience in Nungarin!

From setting up a massive concert to meeting new friends (and some awesome folks from the Kalgoorlie campus), it was an amazing adventure they won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Watch the video below to find out what makes the JCW trip unforgettable!

Three reasons to volunteer while you’re studying at Curtin

Between navigating a new culture, understanding a new academic system and managing your coursework, there’s lots to focus on as an international student. But amongst all of those things, volunteering is an incredibly rewarding opportunity you have to get involved in while you’re at uni.

1. Meet new people and make lifelong friends

We know that adjusting to a new campus and culture can feel overwhelming. Volunteering is a great way to meet people from all walks of life, while also giving back to the community. These connections can often lead to lasting friendships, study groups and support networks—lifelines when you’re far from home.

    2. Gain valuable skills and boost your resume

Volunteering is not only rewarding, but a practical way to gain skills that look great on your resume. If you have ever wondered how you can gain ‘local’ experience while studying abroad, volunteering allows you to build hands-on experience in communication, leadership and project management by working with the community—all skills employers love to see on your CV.

    3. Create lasting memories

Volunteering isn’t just about building your resume or making friends. It’s also about creating meaningful experiences! The memories and friendships you make while working together on a shared experience can make your time at Curtin incredibly rewarding.

The John Curtin Weekend is just one volunteering program you can get involved in at Curtin. Visit the Curtin Volunteers! website to discover all the opportunities available.
