We are writing to inform you of significant developments taking place at Curtin’s Bentley campus, with early works about to get underway on the new B316 Sciences Building. This exciting project will provide space for more than 300 staff and 1,000 students to work, teach and learn with state-of-the-art facilities.
Construction is due to begin on Monday, 17 June, with a focus on the south-eastern end of the campus. This will result in some major disruptions in the area for the Curtin community, including the closure of a substantial number of parking bays at the eastern end of campus and the part-closure of Brand Drive.
How many parking bays will close and when?
520 car parking bays will close in two phases:
Phase 1 (Monday, 17 June): 280 car bays (& 20 motorcycle bays)
Phase 2 (October): 240 car bays
*Phase 1 closures have been timed to align with the end of the exam period and the start of the Semester 1 break. Fewer people on campus, will alleviate pressure on our parking capacity and provide drivers with the opportunity to explore alternatives.
Who does this affect?
- Staff and students will be affected, primarily those in the Faculties of Science & Engineering and Humanities.
- Anyone who parks in the area marked in RED and LIGHT BLUE on the map found here.
- Any visitors using Brand Drive and other access roads which may be affected during the project.
What temporary solutions will be in place? See map here.
- Two Temporary Parking (TP) areas at the northern end of campus off University Boulevard will be open (330+ bays, Green zoned) until at least 12 December, when the University closes (pending monitoring and review).
- A shuttle bus service will run from TPs to two drop-off spots – Stand 2 at Hayman Road Bus Station and near The Forum in front of B200A. *This service will start on July 22, first day of Semester 2.
- Replacement White (staff only) areas have been created – one at the western end and one at the northern end of campus.
- Replacement Yellow (staff and students) bays have been created at the southern end of campus.
- Relocated ACROD bays have been arranged.
*Further details on these measures can be found on the dedicated webpage. This includes up-to-date maps and Frequently Asked Questions.
We encourage everyone who chooses to drive, to check our maps and plan ahead.
Information about travel alternatives can be found here.
There is no doubt the reduction in bays will be inconvenient and frustrating for many staff and students. We are doing our best to balance the needs of drivers with our sustainability and growth goals and are committed to minimising the impact as best we can.
Your understanding and support during these periods of transformation are greatly appreciated.
