1. Join a Student Guild club or society

With over 150 clubs and societies on offer, joining one is a must! Whether you’re into sports, arts, gaming or cultural activities, there’s something for everyone. Not only will you meet like-minded people, but it’s also a fantastic way to enhance your university experience. Consider checking out the Curtin Student Guild for the latest club events and activities to try out!

2. Attend Guild O’Day

O’Day (Orientation Day) is a rite of passage for students. It’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in campus life, discover available clubs and score some free goodies while you’re at it! Even if you’re not a first-year, dropping by can help you connect with organizations or activities you might have missed. Plus, the vibrant atmosphere is infectious!

There is also a “reduced noise period” for students who experience difficulties with access or heightened sensory environments, as well as those that experience anxiety due to large crowds and noise.

3. Explore the John Curtin Gallery

Art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike will appreciate a trip to the John Curtin Gallery. This space hosts a range of exhibitions showcasing contemporary art, photography and installations. Not only is it free for students, but it also provides a quiet and inspiring environment to take a break from your studies. Bonus points if you check out an artist talk or event while you’re there!

4. Meet mates through community service

Give back and gain invaluable experience by participating in Curtin’s community service initiatives. Programs like Curtin Volunteers! offer various opportunities, from environmental conservation to mentoring local youth and gaining extra credit through community participation!

The John Curtin Weekend (overnight volunteer trips in September and October) are definitely a bucket list item in the uni calendar and always comes highly recommended by past volunteers. It’s a fantastic way to connect with the community and make a positive impact while enhancing your resume. It’s also a great way to make new friends and connect with people outside of your degree.

 5. Find your favourite study spots

Don’t limit yourself to just one study spot! Campus boasts a variety of places to hit the books. Try the Library for a classic study vibe, the Creative Quarter for a more relaxed atmosphere or even the beautiful gardens around campus. Each location offers a unique vibe, so mix it up to find your perfect study environment.

6. Experience a Barefoot Lunch!

A must-try beloved campus tradition is the Explore CurtinBarefoot Lunch, where students come together to relax, connect and enjoy live music on the lush campus lawns. Grab your mates, kick off your shoes, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of good vibes, food trucks, and community. It’s a fantastic way to unwind, connect with other students, and embrace the chill campus culture.

Don’t miss the chance to experience at least one Barefoot Lunch before you graduate! The location and times are posted on Explore Curtin’s Instagram page and social channels, so stay tuned!

7.  Attend a Student Guild event or party

From themed parties to student forums, the Curtin Student Guild hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Get your dance moves ready for the Guild Ball or enjoy casual gatherings at comedy night at the Tav. These events are perfect for meeting new people and enjoying the social side of university life!

Don’t forget to take advantage of all the support services Curtin offers. From the Career Centre, which can help you land internships and jobs, to Student Wellbeing Services for mental health support, these resources are there for you. Making use of them can enhance your overall experience and wellbeing during your studies. Explore the personal support page to find what could help you!
