Students at the Curtin Library have compiled their top 10 study tips to help you get through this upcoming exam period. Check out their tips below to inspire you to get revising!
- WORK TOGETHER – find a study buddy, form a study group or attend UniPASS sessions to get different perspectives on a topic, teach others while reinforcing the learning on yourself, and fill in any gaps in your notes.
- MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY – good time management is crucial to study success! Try making a study timetable and stick to it to avoid falling behind and leaving things to the last minute.
- CREATE A PRODUCTIVE STUDY ENVIRONMENT – Identify where you study best and limit the number of distractions you are exposed to there – remove your phone, delete your Facebook app (yes do it!) and distance yourself from Netflix.
- FUEL YOUR MIND AND BODY – make sure to get enough sleep, allow time for exercise, stay hydrated and eat healthy food – it sounds simple but it works!
- USE THE LIBRARY – make use of all the Library resources available to you. Including, but not limited to:
- MAKE NOTES – write notes for each of your lectures, before or after class, and/or make notes as you read or study. Make them more interesting and easier to recall by using colours, diagrams and acronyms. However you make your notes, just be sure to review them regularly!
- CREATE GOOD STUDY HABITS – Good study habits ensure you study smarter, not harder. Dedicate a set amount of time aside each day for revising, complete pre-readings before class, break down study materials into chunks that are easier to understand and make sure to take breaks!
- MAKE USE OF RESOURCES – there are lots of resources available to you to make your study easier so make sure you use them!
- iLectures
- Past exam papers
- Quizzes and practice questions
- Textbooks
- Unit outlines
- YouTube videos
- BE ORGANISED – try using a diary, make a list of when all your assignments are due, plan for the next day before bed, and use a timetable to schedule time in to complete assignments and study for exams.
- TRY YOUR BEST – Above all, try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Just do the best you can by practising, setting time aside and dedicating yourself. Don’t give up as you can do it!
