Feel like you need to achieve more than just watching the latest Netflix series in one sitting this semester break? Read on for our recommendations on things you can do to fill your time and make the most of the next couple of months.
Wake up at the same time every day
Your bed is a multi-functional piece of furniture that serves as home cinema, dining table, and desk and it can be so tempting to spend every hour of your day there. But try and start each day off on the right foot by setting an alarm and actually getting up when it goes off to ensure you wake up at the same time each day.
Find a part-time job to fund your semester break fun
Having your card declined while trying to pay for something can make you want the earth to swallow you whole to save you from embarrassment. So finding a part-time job over the break is a great way to not only make some cash but to add experience to your resume. Check out UniHub where you’ll find casual and part-time jobs advertised to Curtin students. If you’re already supporting yourself with a part-time job – then go you! You’re already one step ahead of everyone else.
Turn off your phone and read a book
Remember a time when you used to read before bed? Now you probably just see how far you can scroll down the Instagram feed of a person you’re stalking without hitting the “like” button. We suggest turning off your phone for half an hour to get stuck into that book you’ve been meaning to read.
Catch up on life admin
As much as you would rather do literally anything else except your taxes, make the most of all this free time you have to catch up on those life admin tasks you’ve been putting off. Update your LinkedIn, take your car in for a service, do a wardrobe cleanse – the options are endless! And you’re guaranteed to feel pretty proud of yourself once you’ve crossed these tasks off your to-do list.
Take a day trip
Get your friends together to go out and explore all the amazing sights and experiences that WA has to offer. Take a drive up to Lancelin to ride the sand dunes, check out the beaches and feast yourselves on the finest baked goods the local bakery has on offer. The Swan Valley is full of great wineries and orchards to visit and do some tastings. Go on a hike in one of WA’s beautiful National Parks. There is so much to do if you just put your mind to it! And google it.
Try something new
Push yourself to get out there and try something that gets you out of your comfort zone. Go rock climbing, try indoor sky diving, take a pottery class or learn another language! Opening yourself up to new experiences is a great way to create new memories and possibly discover a new hobby.
However you spend your break just make sure you enjoy yourself!
