Thinking about volunteering you’re studying at Curtin? National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest celebration of the meaningful contributions made by volunteers across the country, and it’s the perfect time to dip your toes into the world of giving back.

Curtin Volunteers! is Curtin’s resident student volunteering program and it provides volunteering and leadership opportunities that both enhances the student experience while benefitting the wider community. We spoke to six current Curtin Volunteers about why they chose to volunteer with CV! while they study at Curtin.

“I chose to volunteer with CV! because of the amazing programs and projects available. The staff and team are amazing and offer great mentorship around balancing volunteering activities and studies. I get to do volunteer work and school work without them clashing.” – Fortune Tormeti

“I choose to volunteer with CV! because I get the opportunity to interact with other students from different faculties and courses. As a leader, I’ve met so many people with different backgrounds, some of which I’ve become good friends with. Everyone at CV! is really welcoming and friendly, especially the staff and other leaders.” – Nathan Chong

“I choose to volunteer with CV! because they gave me a chance, not only as a volunteer, but as a leader. Also, being a leader means you get exclusive access to Norma’s cupcakes. Those cupcakes are the genuine best.” – Louise Kaestner

“Getting out of my comfort zone is what led me to volunteer with CV!. it is natural for me to just help. At Curtin, I felt that I wanted to get involved and practice that value. Joining CV! has helped me to grow as a person, and exposed me to different perspectives about culture, academia and professional life.” – Carlos Andrés Latandret Solana

“I chose to volunteer with CV! because I participated in a volunteer activity in Semester 1 last year, and I found it to be a fun experience. I thought it’d be a nice experience to involve myself with the community. I want to make the most of my time at university and things like volunteering is just one of the many ways that I’ve found to be able to make lasting memories.” – Sean Phay

“I was drawn to volunteer with Curtin’s volunteering program because of its strong commitment to community engagement and sustainability. Curtin’s emphasis on making a positive impact locally and globally resonated deeply with my values. Through CV!, I have the opportunity to participate in impactful projects and programs that align with my passion for environmental conservation and social welfare. Volunteering not only allows me to contribute to important causes but also provides valuable learning experiences and networking opportunities within a supportive and inclusive community.” – Nandini Joshi

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme, ‘Something for everyone,’ highlights the diverse range of volunteering opportunities available, no matter your interests. With ongoing projects, one-off experiences and weekends away, opportunities with Curtin Volunteers! span areas including community development, education, environment conservation and more.
