Clinical practice in the School of Nursing

Clinical placements provide you with important opportunities to learn through direct experience. During placement, you will put your professional role, knowledge and skills into practice in authentic nursing, midwifery, paramedicine and oral health therapy contexts. You will engage with people from diverse backgrounds, including other health professionals you may work alongside in the future.

In the field, you will be representing yourself, your course or chosen profession, and Curtin. You are expected to demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviour at all times. As a student, you must satisfactorily complete all fieldwork activities, pass assessment requirements and demonstrate attributes associated with professional conduct. To facilitate this, you should refer to your unit outline on Blackboard and read the important information on essential fieldwork requirements.

All Faculty of Health Sciences students enrolled in a Clinical Practice unit are required under the Department of Health’s Clinical Practice Agreement to submit proof of the mandatory health and legal clearances.

Information on Health and Legal checks can be found on SONIA in the Health and Legal Checks Guidebook. You are required to upload all completed forms to SONIA in the first semester of your degree.

Note: Curtin students undertaking approved work/field experience may be covered under the University’s Personal Accident Insurance Policy in the event of injuries sustained while involved in authorised activities.
