As a participant in the Leadership in Sport program, you will be involved in the leadership of groups and teams in the sporting club environment as well as sports officials and recreation programs.
You will be involved in projects that can include instilling change in a community group, managing conflict and working on small to medium size projects in teams.
Participants will assist community clubs in the delivery of small to medium size projects including events, business plans, sponsorship proposals, or other special initiatives. You will take a leading role in these projects in order to showcase the skills and knowledge you have developed through the theoretical component of the program.
Leadership in Sport participants will be involved in dealing with conflict that arises in these programs as well as mentoring and empowering colleagues. Community club involvement may consist of event planning and delivery, developing business plans, sponsorship proposals, community engagement initiatives, or general committee positions.
As part of the Leadership in Sport program, students must complete five leadership skills development modules, in addition to 35 hours volunteering with an accredited Curtin Sport and Recreation program, and also complete a reflection exercise.
The Leadership in Sport program is two semesters in duration.
If you commence the program in Semester 1, you will have until November of the same year to complete. If you commence the program in Semester 2, you will have until July the following year to complete.
Specific program deadlines are provided upon registration.
This program aims to develop strong student leaders within community sporting clubs, sports competitions, and recreation programs. Students will learn, develop and apply these skills in real-world situations that arise within the sport and recreation environment.
