Updating your details
It’s important to keep your personal details up-to-date so you don’t miss important information from the University.

Out-of-date information may affect how we contact you in an emergency, as well as academic implications on your fees and academic transcript.
Here’s what you need to do if you need to change or update your details:
To update your formal or preferred name with Curtin University, follow the steps below:
- Log into OASIS.
- Click on My Studies tab, scroll down to locate the Student Details section on the right hand side.
- Select Change Personal Details.
- Complete the form and attach relevant supporting documents.
The Change of Personal Details form can also be accessed on the Student administration forms webpage.
No supporting documentation is required when updating your preferred name.
If you are studying via Open Universities Australia (OUA), please contact Open Universities Australia directly to update your details.

To update your legal name with Curtin (this includes your first name, last name or other names) you will need to provide:
- one primary form of identification; and
- one secondary form of identification.
When submitting your documents, ensure they meet Curtin’s documentation requirements.
Primary documents:
- Current driver licence issued by an Australian state or territory
- Proof of age card or Photo Card issued by an Australian state or territory
- Foreign residency identity card
- Current driver licence issued by a foreign government’s driving/traffic/motor vehicle licensing authority
- Australian passport
- Citizenship certificate
- Birth certificate (or extract).
Secondary documents:
- Medicare card
- Centrelink card
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs card
- Credit card or bank account card
- Foreign passport
- National health card
- Social security card
- Veterans’ card
- Credit card or bank account card
- National insurance card
To update your preferred name you are not required to provide any documentation. To update, you can submit a request to Curtin Connect via our online form.
To change your date of birth you will need to provide one form of evidence from the list below:
- Official Birth Certificate (or Extract)
- Passport
To change your gender details, you can submit an online request or contact the team at Curtin Connect.
Curtin systems allow for identification as M (male), F (female), or X (indeterminate/unspecified/intersex). No supporting documentation is required.
Please note that changing your details with the University does not automatically change your details with government agencies and could lead to delays in services with agencies whilst verifications take place. For example, Centrelink student support payments may be interrupted if name and gender records do not match at both the University and Centrelink. Please carefully consider any potential consequences of not changing your personal details with all government agencies you interact with.

To update your address details, navigate to eStudent via OASIS:
- Log into OASIS.
- Click on the eStudent tile.
- In the My Details tab, click Contact Details on the left hand side.
- Add a new address by selecting Add New
- Change an existing address by selecting Change mailing address next to the relevant address
- Set a preferred mailing address by selecting Set this mailing address as preferred next to the relevant address
- Copy an existing address to another type by selecting Copy mailing address next to the relevant address.
Only one address can be added for each address type.
Australian addresses
If entering an Australian address you will need to verify your address against valid Australia Post addresses. To do this, in the edit screen:
- Fill in your address details
- Click Continue
- Choose the correct address out of the list of valid options displayed, then click If your address does not show in the list, you may need to edit your search and try again. If you have refined your search and are still unable to find the address, you are looking for you can request an address change by contacting Curtin Connect.
When editing an address you can also:
- choose to copy that address to other address types
- set address as a preferred mailing address.
International addresses
If you are entering a non-Australian address you should only use standard English characters. Symbols or characters from other alphabets may not be compatible with some systems.
Guidelines for address types
- Contact – your main contact address.
- International students on a student visa, it is a condition of your student visa to update your contact information to an Australian address within seven days of arriving in Australia and within seven days of any change in address.
- Australian citizens and permanent residents must have an Australian address unless enrolled externally.
- Offshore students must have an address outside Australia.
- Permanent – your permanent home address which must be a physical location, post office boxes are not permitted.
- International onshore and offshore student must have an address outside Australia.
- Australian citizens and permanent residents must have an Australian address.
- Guardian – address for your parent or guardian. For international students under 18 this can only be updated by contacting the International Office. You will also need to provide a name and phone number in the other My Other Contacts section.
- Next of Kin – address of closest living relative of student for next of kin notification purposes only. You will also need to provide a name and phone number in the other My Other Contacts section.
- Offshore Program – details the Student Services responsible for coordinating student enrolments at offshore Partner locations. This is entered by Student Services staff only.
- Temporary Preferred – to record a preferred mailing address for a set time period to temporarily redirect correspondence.
Preferred mailing address
Your preferred mailing is indicated in the Preferred column on the contact details page. This is the address the university will send your mail to unless a temporary preferred address is entered.
To update your phone details, navigate to eStudent via OASIS:
- Log into OASIS.
- Click on the eStudent tile.
- In the My Details tab, click Contact Details on the left hand side.
- Add a new number by selecting Add New.
- Delete an existing number by selecting Delete phone number next to the relevant number.
- Change an existing number by selecting Change phone number next to the relevant number.
Only one number can be added for each type – home, work, mobile, fax.
You can also:
- Add a comment, such as when is the best contact time
- Mark one of the numbers as your preferred contact for voicemails.
When you have entered all the necessary details, select Save. If the update is successful a green success message will be displayed. Then select Back to return to the contact details page.
Your Curtin provided email address should be used for your communication with the university. This email address cannot be changed or deleted. Some areas of the university will not correspond with you if you do not use your Curtin provided email address.
To update your email details, navigate to eStudent via OASIS
- Log into OASIS.
- Click on the eStudent tile.
- In the My Details tab, click Contact Details on the left hand side.
- Add a student provided email by selecting Add New
- Delete your existing address by selecting Delete email address next to the email
- Change an existing address by selecting Change email address next to the email.
Once you have entered your email click Save and a green success message will confirm your details have been updated. Then select Cancel to return to the contact details page.
An additional email may be useful if you are unable to access your OASIS account for any reason.
In the Contact Details section of eStudent, you can also add contact details for:
- Emergency contact
- Next of kin
- Guardian
- Nominated contact
You can choose Add New to add an additional contact or you can choose Change contact details to edit an existing contact.
You will need to provide your contacts name, relationship to you and contact phone numbers.
For your next of kin and guardian you will also need to include an address. If you have already provided the address it will be pre-populated. Alternatively if you enter it here it will be updated within your list of addresses. Refer to address details for more information.
If an attempt to contact you, on one of the contact details, fails (such as receiving mail marked ‘Return to sender’ or being informed that a contact number is disconnected), a note will be added to your student record to advise both you and the university that the contact is incorrect.
This will also be reflected in your eStudent contact details, with an exclamation mark icon to identify which contact detail has been marked as invalid.
After you update your details, the invalid details notification will be removed within twenty-four hours.
To change your citizenship or visa status you will need to:
- Complete a Change of citizenship / visa status form.
- Ensure you have a scanned original (colour) of your citizenship certificate or visa and the front page of your passport (photo page) at the ready to support your application. Please ensure that the documentation aligns with Curtin’s documentation requirements.
- Submit to your completed form and supporting documentation to Curtin Connect via their online enquiry form.
It is important that your residency status is accurate as this affects your fee liability. Requests must be lodged before the census date to be effective for the study period.
If you are changing your residency status from international student to a domestic student you may need to complete an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF) after your citizenship documents have been processed by Curtin Connect.
Curtin keeps a record of your cultural details. To check what information is recorded for you, go to eStudent > My Details > Cultural Details.
The information includes your main language and if you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
To request a change to the details we have on record, you can contact Curtin Connect.
If you are in receipt of a scholarship you will need to ensure your bank details are kept up to date.
To update your details:
- Log into OASIS
- Click on the My Studies tab
- Click on the Scholarships Recipient box
- Click on Profile then Profile Setting
- Click on Bank Information
- Update your details then click Save and Authorise

If you have recently graduated from an OUA awarded course (i.e. graduated with a title such as Bachelor of Education) and wish to amend your contact details for your graduation documents, please contact Curtin Connect.
If you need further assistance, please submit an online enquiry to Curtin Connect to manually update your details for you.

Curtin OUA
If you are enrolled via Open Universities Australia (OUA) you will need to change your details directly with OUA. Curtin will be notified of any updates to your student details.
