Program coordinators

As a Curtin Extra program coordinator, you will have access to a framework that supports both you and your students. This framework is designed to help you engage students, and provides official recognition of their participation in your programs.

Curtin Extra will support your program’s continued development, while maximising the opportunities for students to become involved.

Program eligibility requirements

Curtin Extra program eligibility criteria includes:

Program must be co-curricular in nature
Program must be coordinated, monitored and supervised by a Curtin staff member who can verify the hours and activities undertaken
Have a minimum of 20 hours of active participation over 12 months
Involve training to sufficiently prepare participants to undertake tasks (if applicable)
Activities must not be linked to academic credit.
No double dipping of hours between programs
Recognition provided to Curtin students only

Student outcomes

Participation in Curtin Extra programs and activities must:

Contribute to the University student experience
Contribute to the personal and professional development of students
Assist to develop skills associated with the Curtin Graduate Capabilities
Support students’ sense of belonging to the Curtin community

Staff responsibilities

Programs must have a Curtin staff member as the program coordinator.

Program coordinators are responsible for maintaining accurate, complete and up-to-date data on each student’s participation in their programs. Program coordinators are able to maintain these records through a secured database platform UniHub.

Through UniHub you can:

Monitor the progression of students participating in your programs
Access students’ Log Hours to approve/reject their participation hours
Access students’ Reflection activity to review their experiences and program feedback.

Approved programs must also have a current Risk Plan in place, signed by the Head of Area and agree to the Curtin Extra program Terms and Conditions which is provided upon program approval.

Student participation

At the beginning of each semester, you must submit a list of students who will be participating in your program. The Curtin Extra team will assist in providing these students access to UniHub that will allow them to Log Hours for your program.

Towards the end of each semester, you must approve your students’ Log Hours and confirm that your students have successfully completed your program in UniHub before the deadline. A student’s eligibility to receive the Curtin Extra Certificate will then be verified and submitted to Graduations Office for issuance.

Curtin Extra records are updated once a year at the end of each participation period, shortly after the examination period (approximately end of August or end of January).

A student’s successful completion of Curtin Extra approved programs will appear on their Curtin Extra eRecord which can be view in OASIS.

Curtin Extra framework

Curtin Extra reflects the diversity of co-curricular activities and development opportunities available to students, while ensuring the quality of their unique experience.

Approved programs are grouped into one of five development streams:

Global Citizenship: regional and international experiences that assist students to develop their intercultural competencies, creativity and global perspectives.
Innovation and Enterprise: students can engage with Curtin’s long history of innovation to co-create and experiment in new projects and initiatives.
Leadership: through the social change model of leadership development, students will develop their leadership skills and capabilities.
Professional Development: opportunities that allow students to translate their experiences in ways that develop their professional skills and identity.
Social Impact: experiences that encourage students to contribute to their local and global communities, collaborating and contributing through service and impact.

Within each development stream there are three tiers, determined by the level of student participation required:

Tier 1: 20+ hours participation*
Tier 2: 35+ hours participation, self awareness plus 4 stream modules, reflection activity*
Tier 3: 70+ hours participation, program completion, reflection activity* [reserved for selected programs only]

*Additional activities/modules may apply depending on the program requirements.

There is no limit to the number of Curtin Extra approved programs a student can participate in while studying.

There is a suite of skills development modules available to you through Curtin Extra. These modules are designed to help your students develop a range of capabilities, contextualise their program experiences, and understand how to communicate their achievements to others.

Students can complete the required modules at any time through Curtin Challenge. Online modules are available to all Curtin students, regardless of location or mode of study.

Dates and deadlines

Participation period: 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 (12 months)

30 June 2025 – Deadline for students

Students must complete all Curtin Extra requirements on UniHub:

Tier 1: log 20+ hours
Tier 2: log 35+ hours, complete 5 modules, complete reflection activity.*
Tier 3: log 70+ hours, complete program, complete reflection activity.*

Note: Graduating Students – students who are graduating at the end of Semester 2, 2024 must complete all Curtin Extra requirements on UniHub by 30 November 2024:

Tier 1: log 20+ hours
Tier 2: log 35+ hours, complete 5 modules, complete reflection activity.*
Tier 3: log 70+ hours, complete program, complete reflection activity.*

*Additional activities/modules may apply depending on the program requirements.

6 July 2025 – Deadline for program coordinators

Final date for all UniHub Hour Logs to be approved, in line with the results release date.

If UniHub Hour Logs are not approved by this date, students may not be eligible for Curtin Extra recognition or receive their Curtin Extra Certificate until the next round of updates after the following semester.

End of September 2025 (TBC) – Graduating students

Your Curtin Extra Certificate will be issued electronically via My eQuals.

Additional/replacement copies can be purchased via OASIS.

Participation period: 1 December 2024 to 30 November 2025 (12 months)

30 November 2025 – Deadline for students

Students must complete all Curtin Extra requirements on UniHub:

Tier 1: log 20+ hours
Tier 2: log 35+ hours, complete 5 modules, complete reflection activity.*
Tier 3: log 70+ hours, complete program, complete reflection activity.*

Note: Graduating Students – students who are graduating at the end of semester 1, 2025 must complete all Curtin Extra requirements on UniHub by 30 June 2025:

Tier 1: log 20+ hours
Tier 2: log 35+ hours, complete 5 modules, complete reflection activity.*
Tier 3: log 70+ hours, complete program, complete reflection activity.*

*Additional activities/modules may apply depending on the program requirements.

Graduating students must also check their preferred mailing address is correct in eStudent.

1 December 2025 – Deadline for program coordinators

Final date for all UniHub Hour Logs to be approved, in line with the results release date.

If UniHub Hour Logs are NOT approved by this date, students may NOT be eligible for Curtin Extra recognition or receive their Curtin Extra Certificate until the next round of updates after the following semester.

End of March 2025 (TBC) – Graduating students

Your Curtin Extra Certificate will be issued electronically via My eQuals.

Additional/replacement copies can be purchased via OASIS.

Nominate a new program

For your program to be approved for Curtin Extra, you must submit a program nomination form.

Consider what your students can achieve through their involvement within your program. How does this link to Curtin Graduate Capabilities?
Select an appropriate tier level and development stream that your program focuses on
Clearly break down and describe the practical activities that students will have the opportunity to engage in

Once submitted, the Curtin Extra Coordinator will work with you to present the nomination to the Curtin Extra Committee. The Committee meets each semester to review new program nominations. You will be notified of the outcome, including any requests for more information, shortly after the meeting is held.
