Who is eligible for First Year Rewards?
First Year Rewards is designed to support new Curtin students from a range of equity backgrounds.
While all first year students are encouraged to participate in their university experience, we recognize that many may face additional barriers. To promote equity, and as an initiative supported by Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) funding, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, students from regional, rural or remote towns and students from low socio-economic postcodes who are new to their course have been given priority eligibility for the major cash prize draw of $1000.
We acknowledge that there are many other cohorts of students that can benefit from being part of this program. If you identify with any of the following cohorts and are new to your course/new to Curtin for Semester 2, 2024, you can join the program using the online form below. You will be provided access to the program within two business days of completing the form.
I feel the First Year Rewards program is a great initiative where students can be incentivised for engaging in various activities and services with the chance of receiving some considerable prizes. It can give you that extra push to join a club or go to an event. I would encourage anyone to give the First Year Experience Program a go.
Neil, 1st Year Student
First Year Rewards is a system that helps to promote involvement, not just for my studies but beyond. It gives me the opportunity to reflect on activities, encourages me to try something different, step out of my comfort zone and expand my knowledge on programs I didn’t know existed.
Sophie, 1st Year Student
The First Year Rewards program has been crucial to my adaptation at university. It helped me become aware of the different support and opportunities available for students to succeed personally and academically. I would encourage any student to be part of this amazing program, and there are also good prizes that reward your involvement!

Frequently asked questions
There are a range of programs and activities you can get involved in to start earning points.
Before you start engaging and earning points, please make sure to understand the verification that is required for each activity. Each activity has a prompt in the Curtin Challenge module with what is required for proof of participation.
The verification process will vary across programs/activities. Some activities require you to upload a screenshot that shows a ‘completed’ message, while others ask for photographic proof. Most activities will also include a reflection question for you to explain your experience engaging in the activity.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are familiar with the evidence required before you engage in a program. In most cases, you will be able to retrospectively obtain the evidence you require. You can contact the program coordinator to assist you.
Once your participation has been verified, you can redeem points for instant prizes by completing a short online form in the ‘Rewards’ tab of the Challenge module. You will then receive instructions on how to pick up your prize.
The Instructions tab in the Challenge module will display the total points you have earned. You must keep your own record of the points you have redeemed. To calculate your points balance, simply deduct the points you have redeemed from total points earned.
Yes, you need to be either new to Curtin or commencing a new course at Curtin to participate.
The program focus is currently based on the Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) initiative which aims to promote equality of opportunity in higher education. This is not to exclude anyone but to ensure equal opportunities for those who need additional support.
