Hear from our Student Ambassadors

Zoe, Occupational Therapy Student

Being a Student Ambassador really helped with my public speaking skills. I learned how to effectively deliver speeches to high school students and engage them using a variety of presentation techniques. With regular opportunities to practise, I have grown into a much more confident speaker. During student panels, I answered questions from the audience and shared my experiences at Curtin, aiming to alleviate their concerns about applying to university. In addition to sharpening my communication skills, I also had the opportunity to make great friends with other ambassadors, which made the experience even more enjoyable. These experiences will be valuable in my future career as an occupational therapist.

Jaswant, Engineering and Data Science student

The program offered me a unique experience working in a professional environment where I learnt a lot about myself and how I connect with others. I was regularly immersed in scenarios that required public speaking and networking, ranging from addressing diverse groups to presenting in front of large crowds. This experience has taught me the value of resilience, adaptability, and effective communication in a professional setting. The Curtin staff I worked with set a great example for me. This experience has inspired me to emulate their professionalism and dedication. The camaraderie and mutual respect within the group is something I deeply value. Their influence has been a guiding light, shaping my aspirations for my future career path.

Tahlia, Humanities student

As a Student Ambassador I met some amazing people and made lasting friendships. Organising and communicating instructions to large groups of high school students, whilst also leading a group of my fellow ambassadors was a challenge at first, but I learnt to adapt to the different groups of students and make sure that my instructions were clear and engaging. The opportunity to practise my presentation and communication skills in a safe environment by sharing my university experiences and watching highschoolers get excited about university was very rewarding. The feedback I received during the program as well as learning from my peers was very helpful. Since completing the program, I have successfully used my Student Ambassador skills in both university assessments and professional endeavours.

Sean, Marketing student

The skills I developed during the Student Ambassador Program are extremely transferable, both to my future career and as a marketing student. With an aspiration to take on leadership roles, the organisational and leadership abilities I developed have been invaluable. The public speaking skills I practised will benefit me in all areas of life, especially in marketing, where effectively delivering messages and engaging audiences is key. Additionally, the interpersonal skills I honed through interacting with diverse groups of people will prove crucial when working with a wide range of stakeholders in my professional career.
