Go Local: The Regional Road Trip is an experiential, place based 25-credit elective unit designed to showcase the unique and vibrant communities of regional, rural and remote Western Australia.
The learning experience
The unit will consist of:
4x three-hour workshops on the Bentley campus
A 7-day regional immersion (in tuition free week)
An overnight regional volunteer experience
The 7-day road trip includes cultural experiences, industry experts, community events, volunteering, as well as a range of other creative activities.
This unit is available to students from all faculties. To enrol you must:
Be an undergraduate student
Have an elective on your study plan OR seek approval for a unit substitution from your Course Coordinator
Have completed less than ten 1000 level (first year units) in your course
The unit is designed for students early in their degree, however is open to all undergraduate students. You can expect to:
Explore the role regional communities play in global sustainability
Leverage your degree to make meaningful impact in regional WA through a hands-on, experiential learning model
Obtain a unique insight into life and work in regional communities
Expand your skillset across industry, disciplines and geographical areas
Explore WA, meet new people and have fun
In Semester 2, 2024, students will explore the Wheatbelt. Being based in York and Kulin, students will also explore surrounding communities including Quairading, Corrigin, Pingelly and Yealering*.

The Regional Road Trip unit makes up a specialisation called ‘Regional Changemakers’, consisting of four units.
Enrolling in the whole specialisation will enable you to:
Co-create solutions for real-world environmental, social and governance (ESG) problems
Gain a deeper understanding of why regional, rural and remote WA is pivotal to all our futures
Learn why Indigenous Knowledge Systems are exactly what we need for tackling the many urgent and interconnected challenges and crises currently facing our world!
