Ally program
A Curtin Ally is someone who supports the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual/Aromantic and otherwise diverse in sexuality and/or gender (LGBTQIA+) people and who say ‘YES!’ to a safe, inclusive university environment that celebrates the unique talents and perspectives of LGBTQIA+ students and staff.
The best part – you don’t have to identify as LGBTQIA+ to become an Ally.
What do Allies do?
Your mission as an Ally is to help create a university environment in which LGBTQIA+ students and staff are accepted and able to be open about who they are. For example, you are asked to demonstrate solidarity by completing LGBTQIA+ Training [levels 1,2 and 3], becoming an active member of the Ally Network, attending events like the annual Pride WA Pride Parade march, wearing an Ally lanyard, or placing rainbow Ally stickers on your stuff. These visible signs of support are simple, fabulous and extremely effective.

LGBTQIA+ Awareness Training
LGBTQIA+ ALLY Training is designed to raise awareness and understanding of contemporary challenges and barriers faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTQIA+) people.
The training has a theoretical base, with historical and local context and understanding of emerging trends. The Level 1 session provides publications, case studies and scenarios to engage conversation and critical thinking around topics covered.
Once you’ve completed the Level 1 training, you’ll be invited to join the Curtin Ally Network. You’ll receive ongoing support and access to learning resources, Ally Network email updates, and invitations to network events.
You may also wish to complete LGBTQIA+ ALLY Level 2 [Extending ALLYship and Understanding Diverse Sex, Sexuality and Gender] as well as
LGBTQIA+ ALLY Level 3 [ALLY touchpoint] Creating local area champions for high level advocacy and support.

Becoming a Curtin Ally is easy. All you need to do is complete LGBTQIA+ Level 1 Training.
