TAFE (VET) or other AQF qualifications

Graduating from TAFE or another Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) provider can qualify you for admission to a range of Curtin courses.

AQF qualifications include certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas, such as those offered through TAFE, Curtin College and other training institutions.

You must also meet the English language proficiency requirement and the prerequisites for your chosen course.

AQF qualifications

Advanced diploma

An advanced diploma qualifies you for entry to Curtin courses with an ATAR of 70 or above and satisfies our English language proficiency requirement. This qualification will make your university application competitive for many courses and you may be eligible for course credits (see the section Advanced standing, below).

Diploma

A diploma qualifies you for entry to Curtin courses with an ATAR of 70 or above and satisfies our English language requirements. You may also be eligible for course credits (see the section Advanced standing, below).

Certificate IV

The Certificate IV is the minimum requirement for university entry. It qualifies you for entry to Curtin courses with a 70 ATAR. You must also meet the English language proficiency requirement.

English language proficiency

To be eligible for admission via the portfolio pathway, you must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following ways:

* You can meet the English language proficiency requirement if you have a combined course score, a moderated school assessment or an exam mark of at least 55; or a letter grade of A, B or C in ATAR English, English Literature or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).

Prerequisites

For some courses, you must have knowledge of specific subjects to be eligible for admission. Known as prerequisites, these subjects are usually studied at ATAR level, or you may have studied the equivalent prerequisite through your AQF qualification.

The prerequisites for each course are listed under the admission criteria on each Curtin course page. If you are not sure whether you meet a prerequisite, send us an enquiry.

Advanced standing

If you have completed units in your AQF qualification course that relate to your Curtin course, you may be eligible for advanced standing (also known as credit for recognised learning, or CRL). This exempts you from having to study the content of those units again. Your total course fee will be reduced and you could complete the course in less time than the normal duration.
