As an international student, can I work in Australia while I'm studying?

UPDATED 17 JUN 2024 | 2:17AM
Please visit our Enrolment and Visa Information for International Students page where you may find more information for international students on a Subclass 500 Student Visa on working in Australia, under the 'Managing your visa and visa requirements' section on the page.
Any student who is unsure of their pay and entitlements or believes they have been underpaid while working in Australian can contact the Fair Work Ombudsman, free of charge, for information and assistance recovering unpaid entitlements.
The Fair Work Ombudsman’s Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94 has a translation and interpreter service available and their website at www.fairwork.gov.au has professionally translated material as well as a translator plug-in.
Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs for further information on work conditions for student visa holders.
If students ask for documentation from Curtin to confirm when their study is 'in session', the study periods are public knowledge and available on the Curtin University website. Please refer to the Academic Calendar. Students may wish to use their Enrolment Advice or obtain a Letter to Confirm Enrolment (which confirms the enrolled study period) and they can provide the Academic Calendar from the website, along with their exam timetable to their employer.
