Use your current English language proficiency test score to calculate the Curtin English pathway to your university study.
Upon completion of this course, you’ll have an intermediate understanding of English, ready to take your abilities to the next level before applying yourself in academic situations.
When you study General English, you’ll develop your English language skills across four core areas – reading, writing, listening and speaking – in everyday situations.
General English is for students with IELTS scores of 3.0 and above. Once you finish these courses, you’ll transition to Gateway English which will aim to increase your English proficiency further.
General English Elementary is offered full-time in-person at our partner institution Navitas English.
You will need an overall IELTS score of 3.0 or equivalent for entry. After completing your course, you will transfer to General English Pre-intermediate.
This stream runs for 10 weeks with 20 contact hours per week.
General English Pre-intermediate is offered full-time in-person at our partner institution Navitas English.
You will need an overall IELTS score of 3.5 or equivalent for entry. After completing your course, you will transfer to General English Intermediate.
This stream runs for 10 weeks with 20 contact hours per week.
General English Intermediate is offered full-time in-person at our partner institution Navitas English.
You will need an overall IELTS score of 4.0 or equivalent for entry. After completing your course, you will transfer to General English Intermediate Plus.
This stream runs for 10 weeks with 20 contact hours per week.
General English Intermediate Plus is offered full-time in-person at our partner institution Navitas English.
You will need an overall IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent for entry. On successfully completing General English Intermediate Plus, you will transfer to the Gateway Program at Curtin’s Perth campus, where you will develop your language skills at a higher level.

There is a range of different assessments during the course which will assess your skills in writing, reading, speaking and listening. The grade which you require to move on to the next stage of your learning will be stated in your letter of offer.
