    Overview

    This information is relevant for students commencing study in 2019. If you plan to commence study in 2020, please view the planned offering.
    If you hold a recognised four-year bachelor degree in the same engineering discipline you wish to study in this course, you may qualify for direct entry into the second year of study and graduate after only two years with an Engineers Australia accredited degree.

    Curtin is currently in the process of seeking Engineers Australia accreditation for the three year Master of Professional Engineering course, for all graduates.

    The electronics and communication fields represent two of the fastest growing technology areas in the world. With the rapid progress of information technology, the role of communications is becoming even more crucial for increasing industry efficiency and competition. This major explores relevant topics in telecommunications and networking like mobile radio communications and data network security.

    • apply electrical engineering theory and its design method to investigate and solve significant technological problems
    • analyse a problem and apply research and creative thinking to the formulation of a solution; implement and verify the solution using state of the art tools and techniques
    • communicate concepts and technical information to lay and professional personnel in written, oral and electronic forms
    • use software and hardware tools in a proficient way to analyse and verify electrical and electronic systems
    • recognise the rapid development of electrical and electronic technologies, and maintain currency via a spirit of inquiry and relevant further study
    • apply international standards, practices and conventions appropriate to electrical engineering
    • function effectively within a typical multidisciplinary and multi-cultural engineering design team as a team member, manager or team leader, recognising individual human rights
    • commit to and behave in accordance with the professional and ethical responsibilities of engineering postgraduates
    • find, evaluate, organise and present information relevant to electrical engineering research activities
