    Overview

    Overview

Bachelor Honours Degrees prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.

This course develops originality and independence of thought and trains students in research. It is the preferred route for students proceeding to a higher degree. Additionally, this course broadens knowledge and provides exposure to the latest developments in biomedical research, thereby enhancing employment prospects.

How this course will make you industry ready

Graduates from honours have a more fully developed and more complex set of research skills that make them more attractive to employers. Graduates with first or upper-second-class honours are also eligible for direct entry into PhD programs.

    What you'll learn

    • apply biomedical science knowledge to extend the boundary of knowledge through a research project (and/or); demonstrate knowledge of bioscience research methodologies in bioscience and how they are applied to answer research questions
    • critically analyse the biomedical science literature to design, implement and evaluate a research project
    • determine the type and variety of biomedical science information required using appropriate technologies; synthesise and evaluate scientific and experimental information
    • communicate the research process and outcomes through a proposal, dissertation and oral presentations appropriate for a scientific audience; keep accurate records of experimental work and planning
    • use appropriate instrumentation to undertake biomedical science experiments
    • demonstrate intellectual curiosity throughout the planning, conduct and evaluation of the research process
    • consider biomedical science problems from a global perspective; apply international biomedical standards for experimental procedures
    • recognise the significance of their project in a broader biological, social and cultural context
    • demonstrate an application of the ethical requirements for research in a bioscience research field; work independently to plan and implement a research project

    Admission criteria

What you need in order to get into this course. There are different pathway options depending on your level of work and education experience.

Select an option that best suits you:

You’re considered someone with work and life experience if:

You have left secondary education more than two years ago (i.e. who are not classified as recent secondary education applicants) and have not undertaken vocational education training (VET) or higher education study since then.

    How we define ‘experience’

‘Experience’ includes a combination of factors sufficient to demonstrate readiness for higher education such as mature-age entry, professional experience whether completion of the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is required or not, community involvement or work experience. Applicants may have undertaken non-formal programs that have helped prepare them for tertiary education or are relevant to the proposed higher education field of study.

    Pathways

    • STAT entry

      Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)

STAT is not accepted as an entry pathway.
