Overview

Public relations is a dynamic, versatile and ever-changing industry that requires a natural curiosity for the world around you. Successful PR professionals are excellent listeners, in tune with changing trends and expectations.

This carefully selected series of units is designed to prepare future PR professionals to communicate with stakeholders across all facets of business and industries. It can complement related majors such as marketing, management, international relations or journalism, but is also ideal for students in other disciplines, such as health, engineering or finance who want to enhance their communication skills.

Because professional communicators work across all industries, a grounding in public relations can provide you with varied career options, including government, not-for-profit, agency and corporate employment opportunities.

What you'll learn

  • Formulate and execute strategic communication plans that align with organisational objectives, utilising storytelling and message alignment to engage target audiences effectively across traditional, digital, and transmedia platforms, GC1, GC2, GC3, GC6.
  • Demonstrate the ability to craft compelling, tailored narratives across traditional, digital, and emerging platforms, mastering various writing styles to suit audience needs and preferences while ensuring coherence and brand consistency, GC2, GC3, GC6.
  • Implement ethical communication practices that prioritise transparency, integrity, and accountability, while developing strategies to build and maintain organisational reputation in local, national, and global media environments, GC1, GC3, GC4, GC6.
  • Apply both qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the effectiveness of public relations campaigns, using data analytics to measure audience engagement and refine communication strategies for greater impact, GC1, GC3, GC6.
  • Critically assess the challenges and opportunities of cross-cultural communication in a globalised public relations context, integrating cultural sensitivity and awareness into communication strategies to foster trust and enhance message effectiveness, GC3, GC4, GC5, GC6.
