How can I access Grammarly and what can I use it for?

UPDATED 22 NOV 2024 | 6:41AM

All Curtin students can access Grammarly via the Institution Page in Blackboard. It's listed under Library & Study Support. The Curtin-provided version is the only version of Grammarly that is permitted for use for students.

The Curtin-provided version uses artificial intelligence (AI) to check spelling, grammar, and punctuation, make your writing more understandable and help you make the right impression on the reader based on your audience and goals. It works in a similar way to the spelling and grammar check built into programs like Microsoft Word, Apple’s Pages, and Google Docs. You should always carefully review suggestions made by Grammarly before accepting them to ensure that they don’t change the meaning of your writing.

Generative AI (Gen-AI) and Grammarly

Gen-AI has been disabled within the Curtin-provided version of Grammarly but all other versions (free, premium and business) contain Gen-AI functionality. Like ChatGPT, Gen-AI within Grammarly generates content in response to prompts. The use of Gen-AI is prohibited in assignments, unless you are given specific permission by your unit coordinator.

If you have any questions about the use of Grammarly, please contact the Library.
