How was my HECS-HELP discount calculated?

UPDATED 19 MAY 2022 | 2:03AM

The HECS-HELP discount is calculated on the basis of the student contribution amounts for all your units in a course that have the same census date, and the upfront payments relating to those student contributions. The amount of discount displayed on your invoice will be applied if an upfront payment of $500 or more is paid by the census date. You will not get a discount for the upfront payments you make towards a group of units in the same course with the same census date:

  • If you are not enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place; or
  • If you are not eligible for HECS-HELP assistance; or
  • If your upfront payments are less than $500 unless they equal 90% of the student contributions

If you believe your HECS-HELP discount has been calculated incorrectly, please contact Student Administration and Fees.

Please note: From 1 January 2017, the Australian Government will remove the HECS-HELP discount and the HELP voluntary repayment bonus.
