How do I request to reduce my study load?

UPDATED 31 JAN 2024 | 7:37AM

International students on a student visa are required to maintain full-time enrolment (100 credits per semester) to ensure their degree is completed within the normal course duration. If you are an international student requiring a reduced study load (underload), you must seek approval to do so prior to amending your enrolment to ensure you are not breaching the conditions of your student visa. It is a an Australian Federal Government requirement that your reasoning for a reduced study load is considered to be compassionate and compelling, and your application will be assessed by the Global Curtin Compliance team in accordance with this stipulation.

To seek approval, you must submit an application through our online enquiry form along with your supporting documentation, following the steps below:

  1. Scroll down to find Enrolment - Special requests
  2. Click Request to reduce study load - International
  3. Click Submit enquiry

Domestic students do not require approval to study less than 100 credits in a semester, but you may have study load conditions if you are receiving a scholarship or financial assistance. Sometimes external organisations may set study load conditions (e.g.  or Transperth).
