What if I choose the wrong course?
It's not unusual for students to find that the course they initially chose is no longer what they wish to study. We want to see you in a course that you both enjoy and can succeed in. There are plenty of people at Curtin who can help you find the right course for you. These include:
Curtin Careers & Employment Centre. The Careers & Employment Centre offers career planning and development support services to students. Download their Switching your Course information sheet.
If you do decide to change courses, you will need to apply for the new course directly through the website, and withdraw from your previous course. The staff at the Student Wellbeing Advisory Service can assist with this paperwork, and advise you about deadlines and processes. (There is a cut-off date each semester for course switching. Dates for each semester are found on the Applications Deadline page). The Student Wellbeing Advisors can also help you with academic guidance and support if required.
Sometimes if students are accepted into a new course, they can get some of their previous study recognised as Credit towards the new course. It is always a good idea to get as high marks as possible in your current course, in order to increase your chances of being accepted into a different course.
