How should I reference and cite the output from ChatGPT or other chatbotsgenerative AI tools?

UPDATED 09 JAN 2024 | 2:54AM

First, check your unit outline and the assignment guidelines to ensure you are permitted to use generative AI tools e.g., ChatGPT. If no information is given, check with your lecturer or tutor.

If you are allowed to use generative AI in your assignment, you must include a written declaration, detailing which tools were used and to what extent, and descriptions of how the information was generated, including the exact wording of the input that was used. If the generated text has been quoted or paraphrased within the text of your assignment, you will also be required to include either in-text citations or footnotes. This will depend on the referencing style that you are using.
