What types of Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) are available?

UPDATED 10 SEP 2024 | 1:36AM

Depending on the Credits for Recognised Learning (CRL) application, students may be granted:

  • Credits: Units completed from a student's previous Curtin course may be transferred to their current course, if the unit is deemed identical or equivalent in both courses or if your study plan allows for electives. The transferred unit will show on the Academic Transcript with the unit title, credit points and grade/mark that was achieved in the previous course.
  • Credit Exemption: Credits are granted on specific units on the basis of relevant previous studies/qualifications or work experience. Such credits will show on the Academic Transcript as the unit title and credit in the 'Recognition of Prior Learning' section as "Exempt".
  • Optional/Elective Credit: Credits granted on the basis of relevant previous studies/qualifications or work experience, but is not unit specific. Such credits will show on the Academic Transcript as either 'General' for unspecified optional units, and/or 'Electives' for unspecified elective units in the in the 'Recognition of Prior Learning' section under the type "General" or "Elective".
Note: there is a limit of 250 credit points of first-year level units (including credited units) in any bachelor’s degree and completed units can only be considered for credit if they have been successfully completed within the last 10 years.
